On the occasion of the 2002 George McNeil retrospective at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the following essay by Lilian Orlowski was published.

He worked with his heart and with his head, but above all with his body. His whole body was involved, he responded to the canvas as if it were a human being. His face was radiant with emotion. —Lilian Orlowski

Lilian Orlowsky (1914-2004) was a painter based in New York and Provincetown. She and her late husband William Freed were students of Hans Hofmann from 1937 through the mid 1940s.
